What is GMAT?

The GMAT exam is a computer adaptive exam that assesses a person’s analytical writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills in standard written English. GMAT denotes Graduate Management Admission Test and the test is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The test is taken by candidates who are aspiring to seek admission into a graduate management program like MBA and Masters in Finance related courses.

GMAT exam as said earlier is a computer adaptive test and not a computer based test. This means the candidate will get one question at a time and depending on the accuracy of the previous answer, the difficulty level of the next question depends.

Recent updates in GMAT

Graduate Management Admission Council has shortened the GMAT exam by 30 minutes which has been effective form 16 April 2018. The new pattern of exam will be of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Along with the Score Preview the Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing Assessment and the optional break down will remain the same. There will be no changes in the impact on scoring in the shortened Verbal Reasoning Quantitative sections as only the unscored items have been removed by GMAC. The candidates in the GMAT are provided with the flexibility to customize their GMAT experience by choosing the section order in which they feel to be most comfortable for taking the exam.

Eligibility Criteria

No eligibility criteria have been set by GMAC, the body conducting GMAT for appearing for the GMAT exams. The candidate should fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the university or college if one aspires to get into after giving the GMAT.

Age Criteria – The candidate appearing for GMAT should have completed 18 years of age and there is no upper age limit. If the age of the candidate is between 13 to 17 years, they should have a written permission from their parents or legal guardian.

Required Qualification – There is no official announcement from GMAC for the required qualification to appear for GMAT for the candidates. However, candidates who wish to enroll for MBA programme should possess a graduate degree certificate from a recognized university.
